F1 driver Mark Webber rides sportive
Have the chance to meet F1 driver Mark Webber at the Ride to the Horns Classic sportive. Held on June 14th with a leisurely start at 11am, starting at Il Maschio at The Stag in Mentmore near Leighton Buzzard, there will be three distances on offer to cater for the entire family.
The longest distance, Ride to the Horns is a 97 mile route through the picturesque and challenging roads of the Chilterns. Restricted to 500 riders the course will cover some of the roads used in the Tour of Britain and Archer Grand Prix as well as Brill before returning to the classic Chiltern climbs of Whiteleaf, the Crong, Dunsmore and the Hale, Ivinghoe Beacon and the final climb up to Whipsnade and Dunstable Downs.
If 97 miles is too far for you, then organisers Wheels in Wheels CC have created the Stag Ride, a 25 mile loop to be completed twice or get the family involved in the Il Maschio family ride 9 mile route on quiet roads. All riders will be greeted with a festival atmosphere and post ride BBQ at the village green.
As a keen cyclist Webber is in support of the ride that raises money for his nominated charity the Royal National Institute for the Blind, Rotary Club of Leighton Buzzard and Linslade and the Mentmore Parish Restoration Fund. Mark will be starting the proceedings on the day and completing the ride. Provided he’s back before you, he will be greeting cyclists on their return.
