The Suffolk Spinner is the perfect mid-summer ride for cyclists of any level, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or looking to complete your first ever event.

The 2017 Suffolk Spinner is taking place on Sunday 30 July 2016.

Where: Otley College, Charity Lane, Otley, Suffolk, IP6 9EY

Why ride it? If you’re taking on your first sportive or wanting to tackle that first century, the Suffolk Spinner’s rolling parcours is a ride that will allow you to concentrate on tackling the mileage without having to worry about any huge climbs to tackle.

You might be aiming to complete your first century, or you might be just looking for a new location to get some summer riding done, but whatever the reason, the Suffolk Spinner sportive has something for everyone.

Bookings for 2017 are being taken at ukcyclingevents.co.uk.

All three courses begin at the same venue, Otley College which is conveniently located only just over eight miles from Ipswich. With stunning countryside nearby, there’s plenty to see and enjoy on a ride around the historic county of Suffolk.

You’ll begin your ride by heading eastward towards the Suffolk Coast and Heaths, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, however the Short route will cut back north before reaching here. Both the Epic and Standard will be able to enjoy the sites and sounds of the area, before the routes split again as riders reach the village of Snape.

Epic riders will then continue northeast before cutting back to the west along the Roman roads through Peasonhall and onwards to Framlingham, which has seemingly become more famous for being the home of pop star Ed Sheeran than it has for its Medieval castle. Meanwhile, Standard riders will be making their way northwest before cutting back towards the start venue.

There are no real significant climbs or major descents along the route, but it is rolling and undulating. This means you’ll be able to keep up a decent average speed throughout if you’re looking to clock a fast time on your chosen distance, but be careful to pace yourself correctly as the constant undulation can take its toll.

With feed stations and mechanical help along the way, you’ll be able to ride with a sense of freedom as you soak up the scenery around you and the July sunshine (hopefully).

Whatever it is you’re looking to get from your riding this year, the Suffolk Spinner is the perfect complement to your mid-season calendar. Three routes, a fast course and one of the best back-drops you in the country – what more could you ask for?
