Remember that paperclip concept bike we showed you a while back? Well, a prestigious design gong just backed up our good taste.

You might recall we looked recently at traditional Dutch bikes and made special mention of the Batavus BUB — a concept bike that has gone into full production and which was designed in the shape of a paperclip.

Well proving that we here at Cycling Active know our onions when it comes to matters aesthetic, the BUB has recently joined products from big-name brands like Apple, Dell and Volkswagen by scooping the prestigious International Forum Design (iF) Gold 2010 award.

The IF jury said of the BUB: “It’s a city bike with a fresh outlook: for trend-conscious city dwellers, the Batavus BUB is exactly the right bike. The wheels run silent and stable, giving the ride a real sense of safety. The design is based on the principle of the office paperclip, and distinguishes itself through its finish and form.”

To see if the people at the IF are right, we’ll be putting a BUB through its paces in next month’s CA. It’s got the form but will the function follow? You’ll just have to read on.
