I am building up to my first organised ride. It is 60 miles. I am riding between 30 and 40 miles 3 times a week.Do I need to be riding 60 miles or will this training get me to 60 on the day.Any advise welcome.

Depends if you are hanging after 40? Plus do you want to just eventualy make it round or glide? I personally like to enjoy my events and have done several 75 milers and a couple of 86's in training for the etape caledonia which is 82 miles long. I find its better to suffer a bit more now than find out you bit off more than you can chew. Also the only way you can plan and practice your feeding strategy is by actually doing it. Personal viewpoint only.

I bet you'll be fine...........but it sounds like you have doubts so I'd say ride 60 miles at least once before the event just to prove to yourself you can do it. Then your state of mind will get you round on the day, and if you start to feel a little weary you can tuck in behind someone else for a few miles to rest.

Which sportive, if it is a hilly or a more flat one that could have a lot of bearing on your training.

agree with all the above, plus my kids run x country one does 1500m and the other 3000m they both train at longer distances, they then find the race distance easier to do & usually end up in the top 3, they also swim 3 or 4 times a week. Me I just give them encouragement & hold the stop watch,
