I have heard those halfords boardman bikes are pretty good. Don't know from experience though. And the Specialized Tarmac or Roubaix are used in a few pro teams and have plenty of models in the range if the spec isn't good enough for you (up to the S Works setup, if you want to pay car money for a bike!)
