Numb
|
|
I see the posting below from Jocky (24.05.2008) about numb feet after 30 minutes.
I am getting numb feet, cramp type pain, pins and needles in my toes. I've done two sportives the last two weeks and the feet are causing be big problems from about 60 miles.
Can anyone help?

I get numb toes in the winter, due to cold and also probably due to being clipped in and therefore not really having much cause to move your feet around.
Not suffered in the summer though. Shoes fit ok? Not too tight at the toe end? Do you try to wiggle your toes every now and again to keep some blood flowing down there?

I get the same problem, even in summer. Poor circulation is probably the root cause, made worse in the right foot by having broken most of my metatarsals at one time or other. I get round it by wearing loose-fitting shoes (Northwave have a really wide toe box which helps - previous Carnacs were terrible), and fairly thick socks (Woolie Boolie Meriono ones are ace), and remembering to wiggle my feet around. Also exaggerating the ankle movement for a while helps get the blood flowing again. If it gets really bad I unclip on descents and wave it around. Gets some funny looks but works.

I did wiggle toes a good bit on the second ride, will have to try thicker socks and maybe a half size larger shoe.
Thanks for your comments!
