please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

wow

its been roughly 12mths since i started training seriously.

last august i wrote on the forum to see if averaging 20mph for a 30 miles flat to rolling route was ok.

i just did a self inflicted TT over 36.25 mile loop with an average speed of 21.93 mph. the course included a total of 700m of vertical climbing and one very steep 1/2mile climb with sections at 25% rising 150m.

with the warm up and down i managed a 52 miles route in an average or 20.1mph

last june i could hardly do 10 miles in 45 mins without being totaly wasted.

i`ve lost 35lbs and gotton two new bikes (and a hot young latin girlfriend) life is not to shabby.

Problem is, you've got to maintain these stunning preformances for the rest of your lives now...

Re: please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

Well, I've not lost any weight, not got any new bikes, and not broken any PBs, and not got a new girlfriend (Mrs Slowhand would kill me!).

I did, however, get a new daughter in January, so I trump you all!

Re: please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

I can't lose weight no matter how I try, that includes adding an extra, hilly, 35 miles/ week to the commute - had to drop that again when I injured the knee, but it'll be coming back soon.
Got a new bike last year to replace an old faithful which snapped across the top tube lug.

What have you tried, and how motivated are you to lose weight (namely, what are you prepared to do and, more importantly, not prepared to do)?

Re: please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

Altered diet, increased mileage, changed job...
It was working well, I got down from 13 1/2 to 13 stone. - Then I gave up smoking a pipe after 30 odd years. Now I'm 14 1/2 and it will NOT go down, I'm struggling to keep it static.
I don't think being 55 years old helps a lot, weight control seems to become progressively more difficult from 40 onwards.

Re: please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

Since last month I have:

Won the EuroMillions lottery, £24.6 million

Grown 6" taller

My penis has got 3" longer

Have got at least 7 girlfriends

(My partner doesn't seem to mind)

Inherited several oil fields in Venezuela

Got my 12hr PB up to 298 miles

Have been selected to ride the sprint events in Beijing, for Bhutan

So fairly normal this month.

Well, I'm 58 and the only time I put on weight is when I eat too much! I'm 4 pounds heavier now than my racing weight when I was 20.

I am in discussions with George W as to how we sort out that situation.

Re: please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

Mister Bfergie you are truly luckiest of us all with that beautiful time trial bike. But more on topic I've been cycling since last October and just got my first sub 30 10 mile TT and lost 1 stone. A good few months!

Re: please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

Good effort fella. It was only 7 weeks from my first sub 30 to the current 26.35(on the same undulating course). Horrific punishing intervals, and positional work on the turbo are the key! Cant wait to do a flat one, im pretty sure i can get close to 24 minutes on a more 'sain' course. Then of course ill have an excuse to actually buy a TT machine next year.(funds permitting)

Re: please excuse me whilst i blow my own trumpet

The Q10/30 is one of the fastest in the country, down the road from me. I know its quite a travel, but its quick.

What is it with CTT course names?
It had always been the Q10/30, (explaining nothing), until 2 years ago when it became known as Reculver. But I notice it has now reverted to Q10/30 in official pronouncements.

Reculver is near Herne Bay, by the way. There are quite a few open events there every year.
