ok so my winter and early spring training had been going well.
i was following a new routine and seeing the benefits, whilst also having cut down the total training time i had been taking on over all from last year so as to aviod over training.
i was factoring in r+r weeks and feeling good to go for the turn of the cycling year here in canada and for stepping up my routine.
when i got wacked by an almighty flu bug (worse of my life i think), thats wiped me out for almost a week so far.
i`ve barely made it out of bed so far let alone outside or onto my bike.
but i`m wondering what the general approach is to getting back on the bike and back into training?
i don`t want to lose too much fitness but i don`t want to make things worse.
opinions and experience gratfully recieved.

Loads of vit C and zinc, loads of water, loads of rest. Jumping on a bike or not getting your rest will make it drag on even longer. Just glad you are in canada so its not likely to spread the uk lol. get well soon mate

Get completely shut of the bug before getting on to any exercise - or else it will either drag on or worsen and hamper you all the more.
It pays to rest and see it off properly. When you do - and when you get back on the bike - you'll probably feel as if it were only yesterday since you were on it.

Agree with the others - don't rush back. I had a weird once a year or so ago and everytime I thought I was recovering I'd do some exercise and I'd be right back where I was before, or worse. Dragged on for nearly 3 months before all traces were gone and I got my energy levels back. Best of luck.

thanks people.
actually today was the first day i felt better, the weather was great about 13c and sunny the first real spring day here in toronto.
i went for a very very gentle 20 mile ride dowen to the lake and back. felt good, legs felt strong, chest a little fragile but as i was not rushing or pushing it was fine.
i`ll probably keep it like that for the next week (a few light spins) then ramp it up if i feel good enough from the weekend after that.
