It means that there is 125 mg of cholosterol(I presume) in each 100ml, of the blood or whatever.
I don't know if that's good or bad, you need to ask an expert.

And even the "experts" don't agree.

Although a high total cholestorol count is indeed bad, another important factor to watch for is the ratio of good cholestorol to bad. I have a low overall cholestorol, but because my good cholestorol is about half of a normal person's, I have to take tablets every day to lower my overall count, increasing the ratio. A doctor can test your cholestorol ratios and advise.

as slowhand mentioned above the ratio of good to bad cholesterol are important figures.unfortunately we as people are mostly governed by genitics of our parents etc.. cholesterol is divided into both LDL and HLD- This concernes the density of lipids in our blood stream..this is the good and bad chloesterol. this will determine what type of statin that someone will take .. also was you test a fasting one? this can make a difference. always get your chloesterol checked every 6 months and badger your gp to put you onto the right type of statin - advice can be found from the british heart foundation if need be

Unfortunately? That's the basis of evolution!

Hey, thanks. I've since discovered it's a pretty low reading. Must be all that red wine, olive oil and garlic. That's how I start cooking - a glass of wine for the cook (aka me) then a good lug of olive oil (EV of course) and a dollop of garlic - then time to think what else to chuck into the pan

As daveno7 suggested I think it's more down to genetics than anything else. Thatmanagain and I have an almost identical diet, but his cholesterol is high while mine is low!! I cut down the saturated fat in our diets and the only one who lost any weight through it was me!! The change in diet reduced his cholesterol a bit but they put him on statins cos I just couldn't get it any lower.

Mine was 6 when I had it checked. It should be 5 or less. - Except that the good cholesterol was off the scale and the bad was quite low. Probably down to riding and using olive oil instead of butter.
