I have the latest edition of cycling weekly fitness summer and have been trying to use the training plans.
firstly I am not sure whether I am a fitness, regular or elite cyclist!
The regular time commitment of 1 hour per week day probably suits my life style but it looks quite tough.
I am training for a 44o mile cycle across china in october so I dont know whether I just need miles under my belt or I could benefit from a more structured training plan.
I have the opportunity to commute to work mon - Friday about 15 miles but again this does not seem to fit in with the training plans?
Lastly I am mainly a MTB rider but I do have cyclo cross single speed (all my bikes are single speed - another problem).
Help please - confused from Kent!

I don't know about the training plans but an hour per day is ok to help with cardio fitness but you will need to add some longer runs even once a week will help to get you used to long lengths of time in the saddle. The more the better! 440miles over how many days? During multiple day cycles eating regularly and enough to keep to you going can be tricky especially if it's hot since you will fill up with fluids.
If you are using panniers on the trip train with them fitted and loaded to the weight you require since it wrecks the balance of the bike and your hill climbing ability. If you put them on the day of departure it can really sicken you, better to get the shock over with when you can rest or adjust the balance now!
I hope this is of use to you.

If the ride is setup anything like the ride I did last month then you will be stopping every 15 miles or so to let everyone catch up before going again. So if you make sure you train like that then it should be okay.
Just be prepared to be in the saddle for longer than you expect as you will have long day, but actually to be more rested as you do get good breaks after every 45-60 mins or so.
