I watched to team presentation last night on Eurosport. I was NOT impressed by the 2 new kits. Team Columbia aka Take the High Road are in BLUE. Yet another BLUE jersey. Slip Slide are in some sort of black and white strip with bits of argyle. And white shorts - surely a wardrobe mulfunction? Why can these teams not choose different colours? I thought the old TTHR was quite classy, myself. All this black and blue is just like school uniform!

I am also fed up with this blue blue. If they want blue then contrast it with red, a la Motorola, or pink, green, grey and yellow like any self respecting Italian team would do.
Black is particularly dull, but at least Rapha stick some pink on the jerseys. ONCE black and yellow (TDF colours) was quite good as well.
To broaden this thread if I may, what is/has been the best team strip in the peleton, home or abroad ?

Oh I liked last years team CSC kit, Those diagonal lines on the abdomen are oh so slimming! South Aussie Kangaroo is nice and bright with even a few Mapei cubes.... but best is the CW Forum penguin jersey designed by thefatcontroller!!!

Mapei classic "cubes" was the best in my opinion. Did like Carrera (sic?) as well though.

Carrera, that was the one with the fake denim shorts? I liked the old Hinault/Lemond La Vie Clair strip.

The old 'Z' strip was pretty stunning too!
But these days the jerseys are all a bit bland and samey - and far too much powder blue - Gerolsteiner, Astana, Bouygues, Milram, Ag2R, and now Columbia too. It's really difficult to follow these teams as they look so similar.

Euskatel orange is striking, but to me, offensive. It must, presumably, have some Basque connection, and I respect the team, but the kit colour is disgusting.

Peugeot Black and white was nice.
Team Coast celeste and white, very retro, was good.

It all went down the pan in the ninties. There are few distinctive jerseys anymore, they all blend into one anonymous blob in the bunch. The classics like Peugeot, Bic, Molteni and Brooklyn really stood out.
Does anyone else also think that helmets and shades have robbed cycling of a great part of it's visual spectacle? You only have to look at pictures from the mid ninties back to see how much more atmospheric the whole thing appeared. Now they all look like Grid-Iron footballers.

Agreed, helmets remove the individuality of the riders and shades hide the suffering! No one mentioned Jelly Belly yet, my guess is unless your under 5% fat you wouldn't want Jelly Belly written across your jelly belly just like having Liquigas written on your butt..not a good look!!

I think helmets destroyed it. to a large extent.
But Health and Safety rules.
Which is why we should give up cycling and drive around in HumVs (or whatever they're called), cos that's what we want.
Or not. (Please let's not start a helmet argument)

At risk of being laughed at; how about the old Festina kit with the big watch face on it? Not very subtle but you could always spot it from the helicopter shots!

Yes the watches were distinctive. On a dull white, blue and yellow.was it? jersey.
I liked the old Astana.

Who is it that can afford to drive around in a Hummer with petrol prices as they are. Nobody of this site, I'm sure.
Always liked the Mercier Hutchinson team kit from the sixties. When men were men and not a bunch of pussy cats and divas.

I was very fond of the old Skil Kas red/white stripey jersey, as made famous by Sean Kelly, and was delighted to see it again at some races this year with the re-emergence of Skil.
I was also pretty fond of the Seven-Eleven one - something about the simplicity of the design appealed to me.

I was particularly taken with Valverde's striking helmet in the Spanish National colours!
Oh it's great to finally find someone to discuss these important matters with!

Good choice. The Toshiba reincarnation of 1989 was better still. I also liked a Lotto strip from the 1990s that was half red and half black, divided down the middle of the jersey. The coolest jersey must be the team Italia one that Bugno wore to victory. Plain blue, with a small tricolori crest on the chest.
