1st weeks training - any good?
      #28883 - 27/07/2008 11:54

50 years old, 14 stone, not fit. Just started cycling. Are these times OK for my 1st week or am I way under target. Comments would be welcome

20/07 15.83km 49mins 19.42km/hr av.
23/07 10.53km 29m30s 21.31km/hr av.
25/07 17.41km 49m53s 20.94km/hr av.
27/07 23.32km 1hr9m6s 20.25km/hr av.

Routes are undulating with some short steep hills and are quite exposed to the wind. On the whole I've felt OK. No real blow-ups and no saddle pain (so far).

12mph average is a pretty good start, I'd have thought! Sounds to me like you're doing well.

Keep going. 4 rides show that you're going to try to keep at it. It will get easier, you'll go faster and it will get more fun, honest. Really, another 3 weeks, it will be so easy compared to now.

(Miles would be easier to comprehend for me, but if you prefer kilometres, so be it..)
