Campag Chain Rings
      #30550 - 13/08/2008 15:10

Is it possible to swap the 48t ring on a campag veloce compact chainset with a replacement 50t ring?

If so, where can one source replacement rings?

Ideally, I want a Centaur 50/34 ultradrive, but I think I had the last one off ebay a little while ago. There appear to be no more in the World.

Thanks.

There are cheaper and more expensive all here. I will send you the bike build bill later!

Those are 135mm rings for a standard chainset, bfergie. You need 110mm BCD rings for a compact. TA do Campag replacements for around £27. Zephyr if you have a square taper and Nerius for Ultra Torque which has one bolt slightly offset.

Thanks for the info guys. Maybe I'm better going to Ultratorque given the price of a veloce compact, replacement ring and BB is probably similar to a UT centaur CT!

What are the thoughts on UT? Gimmick or noticeable improvement?

UT makes a lot of sense. I have had a bit of trouble trying to source a square taper BB recently, plenty of Italian threaded ones about but the more popular English threads are becoming a problem to find, and that is likely to get worse with time.

UT is lighter and supposidly stiffer, though I have never felt a square tape one bend when I push on it. It is worth getting the BB shell faced before fitting a UT as any mis-alignment will cause rapid bearing wear.

1) Does anyone here use Parker International? I find they're handy for Campag stuff.
2) Stronglight do an ISO B/B for the Speedlight chainset. I seem to remember someone (Smokin'??) saying they were made of chocolate but mine's been ok so far.

I have ordered a few things but keep forgetting about them when bargain hunting, don't know why. I get fed up with J.E James stuff always being out of stock. Mostly I use Ribble and Chainreaction for parts, Evens were the best for my chainset, Probikekit and Prendas for clothing(both deliver next day every time) but rarely use Wiggle, I find them costly and I always check G.B cycles bargain section.
