There has been a few cases of the spindles snapping causing Americans to get injured (very nasty for a company to hurt an American!) So that's why they are to be returned.

I seem to remember CampagChris had a failure with his carbon/chromo ones a while ago.

Right, the gospel according to St Mick. He phoned Look, they send the axles, the shop do the job, axles won't be here until the end of the month. (What's new?) In my case that doesn't matter because the owner of the bike will be abroad for the next 6 - 8 months but be aware.

If your in doubt about the pedals, for a couple of quid from Wiggle get the little plastic tool for extracting the spindle, check them for wear and re grease. I looked at mine and there was no sign of any problems on either pair. The only thing I noticed when I bought my keos was how little grease was in the spindles which could of been the problem all along.

If the spindles have been snapping it wont be a wear issue, it'll be fatigue and probably wont be visible unless you can crack test or x-ray the spindle.
Probably the best thing is to get the shop you got them from to get the spindles in and arrange to pop in and get them swapped while you wait.

Look would have to re-imburse dealers for doing the warranty work of axle replacement, I would suggest most LBS's wont want the hassle and would rather replace the whole pedal.
Campag Chris did indeed snap a chromoly axle on them, got them replaced for him at a Look dealer with a free upgrade to titanium, the cynical amongst us may suggest that says there was a possible issue.
Anyone know if this is a worldwide recall?
