Zipp 404's
      #30923 - 16/08/2008 20:28

Got a hill climb tt coming up only a couple of minutes long, would you use Ksyrium elites or Zipp 404's for getting any variables such as wind, strengh of rider etc... Personaly i doubt owt in it, as the deep sections wouldn't come into their own at the slower speed, what would you choose? ps please can we stick to the subject in hand sic AND NOT GO OFF ON A SLAGGING MATCH!!! (see my other post in the lounge)

ksyrium elite..770g front 920g rear total=1690g

zipp 404 ..570g front 682g rear total=1252g

438g differance is close to a pound or a full water bottle, I always thought on hill climbing weight is everything, here you get weight saving and aero advantage even at slow speed. You will accelerate faster with the light wheels also so for me no contest, Zipp wheels every time!

Watch what tubes you use as well, some are 50g less than others, 100g off the total bike weight right where you need it really helps on the hills and acceleration.

Bloody know-it-all!

I've got those 50g tubes since you recommended them, btw...

Good luck in the hill climb, SS!

You want your wheels to be as light and as stiff as possible. You'll be putting alot of torque through them on such a short hill and so you don't want any flex. Weight is also very important of course for reasons of acceleration and for beating gravity but extra light wheels that flex a bit are of little use on a hill climb. Try out the 404's and compare them to any other wheels you have on the hill that will be used for the competition.
