In mid October I have been informed that I "WILL" be going on a family holiday for a week to Centre Parcs Prison near Penrith with In-laws,wife and her aunties, uncles and kids everywhere..oh joy. After much (heated) discussions I am allowed to take my good bike and can escape for a couple of days around the Lake District but must return each night before dark.
I need suggestions, route maps or if anyone is local to the area and wants to show the best roads let me know. A couple of 100 mile trips is ideal and a couple of 50s as well just in case extre leave is granted! HELP!!!!
Messages of sympathy, encouragement and well wishes greatly recieved as well!

Just ride home, it's not far from there, call and say you broke down a long way away, far from all transport links. Then spend a relaxing week watching TV and riding your bike. On the last day of the holiday, ride back encrusted in mud and suck your cheeks in so you look like you've not eaten in days. It'll work, I promise.

Check out the A 686, which runs from Penrith to Hexham- voted one of the top 10 drives in the world by the AA. I've driven it but never ridden it unfortunately. Part of it featured in the Killer climb section of the comic a few weeks back.

hard knott pass loop
here`s a little loop i did in the lake just the other week it starts from ulverston but you can cut that bit out easily.
be warned 100 miles in the lakes is a very long way the loop i linked to has about 7500 vertical feet of climb over 66 miles. and takes in wrynose and hardknott pass. but they are not the only climbs on the route by any means
its brutal imo and i was totally unprepared for it. but it was spectacular.
enjoy.
i also have the gps files for a garmin if you need them of a couple of routes.
try kirkstone pass as well from ambleside its higher than hardknott but a little easier.

A mother-in-law is for life, not just for Christmas.
