oh lads and lassies of the forum - i think i am getting a bit under hungover after the TDF .i need to see some proper racing on the box even some highlights from some obscure race in france - i suppose i could be withdrawing from a lack of racing or maybe the madness of a damp august evening is taking hold-its awful out there.
i have taken to watching the fleche wollone on sky+ to remind me that the racing world exists- ...i know the olympics are on( track etc.cooke,pooley..) but the mens road race was disappointing until the last 10kms..i need to see some proper road work... i need racing ! hurry up the tours of ireland and britain

Me too! I've been watching the DVDs of the 2003 TdF and 'A Sunday in Hell'. Can't wait until Sept 8th - Tour of Britain is passing by, and I'll be there. Live racing!

I'm feeling just the same.. Let's see some real racing, some real roads, some scenery and weather and road furniture and domestiques ferrying water bottles back and forth to the bunch for goodness sakes!! Even Belgium will do...
Anyway, Eurosport are covering the Eneco Tour this week! Hoo-ray!!

ToB's a pain this year, it normally passes within riding distance of home but not this time.

Why doesn't the ToB have any interesting routes? I know it's got to get some spectators, but really, riding between a few major towns and having no proper mountains is just not very exciting to me.
Apologies if I've got that wrong, I haven't examined the routes in great detail, but I'm sure they looked a bit bland when first announced.

Because it's based in Britain ? They could find some good long climbs in Scotland but there are no big population centres where the climbs are.

2 years ago it stopped in Canterbury, just down the road from me, the next year we got the Tour de France, so I've been spoilt, apart from in 2006 the riders were striking and we were all hanging around in the cool windy conditions, waiting for them to arrive. They did eventually and I saw someone beat Cavendish. by a metre, I was standing 2 metres from the line and it was almost exciting

Some of the ToB route depends on which Local Development Agency wants to pay to have the route pass through there area. Once whoever owns the ToB knows who's paying the bills they then thread the route through them. Economically practical but can lead to the long transfers and maybe missing some of the more scenic routes.

Mad keen for a bit of real cycle racing, especially live in the flesh - the track is great, but not the same.
I'm making the trip to the Old Country to take in the first and last stages of the Tour of Ireland; then the TOB starts conveniently in London the following Saturday. With the London Crit Champs the night before, I'll be going from famine to feast, then back to famine again until the World Cup in Manchester.

When ToB was The Pru Tour there was a points sprint in my holm town! I went 12 miles up the road to watch them climb the hills ,There was a good tail wind behind them and they flew past like a bloody sprint , I had to cycle back down into a strong headwind (just got back into cycling after years off)by the time I got back home, mustering every last bit of strength I had left to switch on the telly, the race was in the outskirts of Edinburgh .Collapsed in a heap,p***ed off!!

Yes, years of watching it on TV for the Nissan Classic led me to decide that wherever else I was going to watch cycling, one day I wanted to see a pro cycling race tackle it! I recall at the time some major Dutch or Belgian rider talking of how it was as bad as any climb in the Tour, except shorter.
I hope you can get to the London stage - should be a good day. I used to work Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays back in Ireland, which wiped out all chance of seeing any sports I liked - thankfully those days are mostly over now.
Any other Forumers going to be at the London stage?
