I weigh about 82kg, on sunday I rode 45 miles with an average speed of 18.5 mph, im quite new to this cycling lark, really enjoying it but want to ensure im eating enough to cover my rides! your help is greatly appreciated.

This one is fairly simple but seems to be within 100 calories of what I get from the heart rate monitor. Wind, gradient all change the results but it is just a guide. http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/magazine/interactive/calories/index.aspx#ResultsSection
Basically 50 calories per mile is good enough for most!

Some cyclocomputers will calculate it for you. My £5 one from Aldi does.

the site you recommended gave me a value of just over 1600, the 50 per mile works out at 2250 so I've decided to eat 1600 in healthy stuff and top up to 2250 with ale!!! thanks for the help!

I'm not that bothered if it's deadly accurate, I don't use the info for anything, I was just saying that some computers show it.
Anyway, it's Aldi, not Lidl... so there.

if you are hungry eat ! if you are not don't your body has an extremely efficient mechanism for ensuring that you eat and drink what you need if you listen to it.
If you are doing that sort of mileage at that sort of speed and you have no significant health issues I doubt if you will have serious weight and fitness issues requiring such a precise calorie count.
