After riding regularly for 15 years i think i have got my first saddle sore. Its like a small boil on the very inside of my left cheek, just next to my perenium. I had a week off the bike, using savlon daily and it seemed to go but when i resumed my daily 15 mile commute yesterday it started to return. Call me old fashioned but showing the doctor is a last resort, so how do i get rid of it properly?

Nappy Rash cream is supposed to work well. After that, try using chamois cream regularly.

Have to agree with the Doc.(or Nurse ) appointment! better to get it seen to as early as possible incase it leads to something much worse! tempted to say they(Doc.or Nurse)could get to the bottom of things ,but won't - - damn just did!

I've got a complete doctor phobia too, so I understand the reluctance!
I would suggest trying sudocrem - thatmanagain's used it to treat very nasty saddle sores while cycle touring and it's always got rid of them.

That's OK unless it isn't a simple saddle sore ! If only there were a body of trained Professionals who could give advice on such matters.

Go and see a doctor, its their job after all. Just imagine you are paying them (you are). If its close to the perineum its definitely worth getting checked, it could actually be something that needs real diagnosis. If its just a saddle sore, no problem, do the above.. but what have you got to lose? If you can tell us about it, you can tell a doctor.

Can you find an old fashioned glass Coke bottle? Fill it with boiling water, lance the boil to the bottom with a sterilised needle, empty the water from the bottle & slap it on the boil. 3 minutes later, when you've removed the now cool bottle full of pus, and climbed down from the ceiling pack the remaining crater with Germoline & cover it with a plaster.
Yes they used to do it that way!

If only. But all we've got is a bunch who know how to prescribe drugs and seem to know very little about health.

The problem being that drugs in the shape of antibiotics are just what a saddle sore would merit. You could say "it's just what the Doctor ordered".

oh this one sounds a bit sore - a gp will be delighted to see it or a practice nurse - a relic of past years...
seriously - try and not let moisture get into the sore it you have it covered - it might be a good idea to get a simpl e dry dressing as well as cleaning with a saline solution before ( ask a chemist..!)...do not remove the dressing everyday..if you sit down a bit comfortably - you know its getting better..
be careful and make sure thats its not an ingrowing hair or otherwise it could be worse
