Yea, looks like it could be a good bank holiday w/end. First good cycling weather for a while and I won't be riding. Saturday - walking on Dartmoor, Sunday - family commitments, Monday - I'll be spending most of the day trying to find a little white ball in long grass/trees/water etc as I foolishly agreed to a game of golf ... oh, How I can't wait for that one

Sorry, I can't feel sorry for you. Bro lives in Inverness and he's been gloating all summer about the nice dry sunny weather they've been enjoying up there while we've been literally flooded out down here!
Oh and by the way, what's the cycling like around Speyside?? I'm thinking in terms of trying out a cycling -cum- distillery holiday one year..

Speyside is fantastic, but not completed many miles. Like most of Scotland, if you get the weather you cant go wrong.
Stay away from the booze or you wont make it back!
Inverness to Ft William bout 50 miles but then the next 50 to Mallaig are some of the best you will get up here.

PS Your Bro was lying about the weather. 2 weeks in June and thats about it!

I have especial reason for knowing the back records of August B/H. It is nearly always very good. I've booked the week off, then back for a week then off for a week.
First week around the Llyn Peninsula, the other week down to Northants

Avoid the Inverness to Fort William road, it can be very busy and the traffic is fast!. Better to go slightly south and take the Newtonmore to Spean Bridge road(A86) Thats where Monarch of the glen was filmed. Better bet is to stick to the west coast for cycling,Fort William, Glen Shiel,Loch Carron,Torridon to Ullapool. Great roads, quiet, big scenery, even a hop over to Skye is nice.

now its him pinching ideas
thats the exact summer route i did this year (but north-south)
some fantastic roads there, especially skye! found a great climb there that was like an italian climb. lovely sunshine. view over the sea. blue sky. reasonably tough climb 20%+. some good hairpins at the top and the way back down was AMAZING! single track the whole way met about 5 cars in 15miles. caused one to pull in and let us pass because they couldn't go as fast round the bends
Staffin-Uig, the road runs straight through the heart of skye.
didn't so much in fort william, was the last day sorry thats not much use but i would highly recommend skye!!!

The Isle of Mull and Ardnamurchan are our favourite cycling areas in Scotand so far. Mull's not so busy as Skye provided you avoid the tourist coaches trundling back and forth from the ferryport to Iona. Otherwise really quiet roads and bursting with magnificent coastal scenery and wildlife.

I can't go to Mull any more, if my wee boy sees Tobermory he will want us to go looking for all the folk from the kids show called Balamory that was made there! Oh for the simple life again!

Lots of cyclists in Balamory, are you telling me its not real? Spencer, the black american rides a trike with a trailer, the cop,PC Plum rides a sit up and beg, even Josie the black Londoner rides a bike occasionally.
And such a cosmopolitan small town for the far west of Scotland.
I had thought it was a beacon for multi cultural Britain, how disappointing to find its a fantasy.

Spencer can no more ride a bike than he can play guitar. He's by far the most irritating and useless character on that show. Josie is not particularly good at her chosen career either. Have you seen how she kicks a ball? And don't get me started on "Plummy"! He's clearly a frustrated singer - he's got the best voice of the lot of them, but his looks meant he never hit the limelight. The only one who knows anything is Archie. He may live in a pink castle, and thinks yoghurt pots make for good inventing material but he's ok in my book.
