The 10k open water swimming looked tough. GB got two silvers and a bronze. The Russian woman who won the ladies event stayed in the slipstream of the two leading Brits for the entire race, then came round them at the end to take gold. If she tried that in cycling, someone would shove her into the barriers. The GB bloke went off course and lost his first place. He had to settle for silver. The Dutch winner is a cancer survivor.
Sports that should be dropped from the Olympics?
Basically, any sport for which a medal is not the pinnacle of achievement. So: Tennis, Football and Baseball for starters.

Unfortunately road cycling could be added to that list!

Yes, why not. It could be made an under 23 event. The seasoned pros have enough one day races.

But that's got nothing to do with an appreciation of sporting endeavour!

I explained my enjoyment of the womens beach volleyball on another post and it still is valid, today my wife pointed out when the ball went out of play...2 weeks of watching it and only now I noticed the ball!

Apart from the cycling, I have to say that the Olympics leave me cold and I have not watched any other event.

Any event that requires judging should be dropped, if you can't tell who's won by looking then it should be out. Note that I don't mean photo finish technology I mean diving, gymnastics etc that require an opinion not a quantity.

Fave non cycling event has to be... rowing for the sheer exhaustion they always seem to be in post race. Worst Equestrian, think it would be better if the riders horses were drawn out of a hat so as we would then see how good the riders were! What event would you like to see included in london 2012 non cycling? I,m thinking dwarf throwing, wife carrying or shin kicking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iKcDNfIy7w&feature=related

Event to be added for 2012 must be 100m space hopper racing! As for wet beach volleyball, brilliant idea, should be guaranteed in this country in 2012.

Anyone see the pentathlon on the BBC tonight? Random horses, none of which wanted to jump, didn't blame them with the amount of mud on the ground.

Four showjumping horses tested positive, and their riders had to withdraw. Another rich vein of comedy material for Mock the Week.

That's a good point but not so much with gymnastics or diving since I have no idea how else it could be scored, the sport I really don't understand is ski jumping, I know it's winter not summer olympics but why do they get points for style, it's a jump, simple, does it matter if they flap their arms and crash land on their face if they go the furthest! They don't ask for style marks in the long jump!
