There's a couple of stems there. I think, I didn't realise they were so rare. I had to get black painted alloy bars earlier this year because the shiny ones had become so difficult to obtain.
Even the new bar tape had black , fake, carbon end plugs.

This probably rates as the dumbest question ever. But, in bicycle terms, what exactly is 'alloy'?? I always thought an alloy was a blend of different metals...

Alloy is a blend of metals, steel, brass, bronze are all alloy, generally in bike talk alloy refers to aluminium alloy, aluminium on its own is prone to metal fatigue so gets mixed with other metals such as scandium, magnesium, zinc, titanium etc to add strength, suppleness, springiness without adding much weight. You are correct with what you call an alloy, just people have got so used to calling aluminium alloy just alloy. 7075 or 6061 etc refer to the other elements added to aluminium such as zinc for 7075 and a right old mixture for 6061. These mixtures also effect how much they weigh and how well they weld. The properties of aluminium alloys are very specific to their use.

Thanks bfergie, that's really helpful. So is my Orbea frame - described as aluminium - really aluminium, or an aluminium alloy too???

It will be an alloy, which model is it? Might be able to find out which but is most likely 7005 or Scandium/alloy which is the best of the aluminium alloys for bike use, I think LPR Brakes still use them! Some components may be made of 7075 alloy but not the frame because of its inability to weld properly.

Aluminium is nearly always used as an alloy in anything; i.e. it contains other non- aluminium things.
Titanium is usually an alloy in bike frames (often with aluminium), though not always.
Steel is another alloy of iron, carbon etc.
Alloy, as bfergie says, is usually taken to mean aluminium alloy when talking about bike parts.
