Cycling Shorts
      #31827 - 25/08/2008 16:16

Is it true that cycling shorts should be worn next to the skin with nothing underneath?

Yes, the point of them is that the padded insert has no seams to cause chaffing against the skin.

Udderly Smoooooth is great

They've cottoned on and produced a special cycling version. The first couple of pots I bought had to come from a tapestry supplies website. Cannot cannot cannot work out the link between needlework and udder cream...

If you're really unsure, ask someone to help you apply it. I can guarantee you'll be converted.

For the rest of the human race - perfectly normal!

I'm with you rover, chamois cream was necessary when shorts had leather chamois seat pads, to make it soft, with modern foam and gel, whats it for?

You are all wimps

Or something....

My first ever pair of cycling shorts, when I were a lad, had a real Chamois. But my Mum ruined them by putting them on the radiator to dry! I wasn't a happy chappy!

Dammit, I was trying to avoid the blistering form - see above udder cream comments.

Well, if you're weird you're not alone - I've never used it either. I have got a tub of Assos cream but I've never yet felt the need to use it - as has been said, modern synthetic pads are wonderfully soft (although I never used to use cream in the days of real chamois either).

i agree with the no need-ers.
have never used it nor had any consideration to. my specialized and nike shorts are prefectly comfortable dry and spongy

rather they didn't feel like i've just sat in a puddle.

On my first Sportive I kept feeling a dampness on my lower back as I was driving the short distance to the event. I realised when I was using the facilities that my nappy cream had "squidged" over the top of the padding and seeped out through the lycra. I felt somewhat self-conscious throughout the day, and my wife wondered about the white stain on her car seat.
