Last week i went to the alps for some riding on the cols of isere. Day 1: Col du glandon- tough, steep nearly all the way, the top was a killer but I have never felt so fulfilled after a climb. with hindsight it would have been wise to have climbed an easier col first, but hey you only have 1 life so go for it. Day 2: Col D'ornon- a far easier climb and after the glandon i had fitted a 32 cassette so all the way up my cadence was no lower than 100, a comfortable day in the saddle. Day 3: Alpe D'huez- a traffic covered myth! Now i do appreciate the heritage but in truth there was no other climb that really felt so busy, up the climb I felt surprisingly little pain perhaps it was just where i was. Day 4:Les Deux Alps- final climb great fun, i felt so good on the climb, just thinking of pantani and Ullrich, inspiring!
A great trip and worth every mile of climbing there truly is no other place like the alps!

You lucky git! I have to admit that I'm jealous, the only famous climb I've cycled up is the Ghisallo which is in the tour of Lombardy, a nice climb which is well worth it to see the museum in the chapel at the top.

Nice climbs, one day, one day.
The Mur de Huy is my only famous one, steep as hell but perfectly do-able. Nice town at the bottom also, well mostly.

I was at Alpe D, earlier this year, and feel that the cable car up, and snowboard down are by far the most fun... I will try it on the bike at some time, though.... Preferrably not in the snow!
