Cycling on ITV4 next year
      #32049 - 27/08/2008 01:09

I heard about sky getting involved with cycling so have they took the Tour de France, Tour of Ireland and Tour of Britain from ITV4 or have they just got the velodrome stuff?

AFAIK they haven't got the TdF, isn't there something from ASO / European Broadcasting Union that says the TdF rights can't go to someone like Sky? Something to do with accessibility?

Dunno about ToB or Ireland, I guess as these events would be negotiated by the organisers.

On the track I don't know what they'll be able to televise. The worlds cups and the Worlds are 'owned' by the UCI who won't let them be shown to a satellite or subscription broadcaster (although maybe all you need to do is offer Uncle Pat a few Euros )
So of the existing events in the UK that leaves the Revolutions at Manchester or Sky to create it's own events. But one thing I don't get is how these will fit into the calendar. I can't see BC allowing any event that will affect their riders preparation for major events, who know?

Thanks. So sky might not be ruining anyone's viewing?

If you can stand the rubbish interface then cycling.tv might be a good option.

I'm disgusted by the governments compulsary switch to digital as well. They're only doing it because of the billions they can raise. They'll blow their one-off payment funding the war and our analogue heritage will be lost forever.

If they turn off the analogue radio transmitters before they've upgraded DAB to something better than cassette quality (and in stereo) it'll be another example of New Labour's obsession with lowering standards on everything they touch (parliament being a prime example).

Switch to digital means the wife can't go upstairs and watch big brother or whatever reality crap is on as we only have Sky in the living room ,kids telly will be knackered as well , they'll just have to watch DVDs or play on the Wii !!
