Seeing as this is a ?seven of the best? test, that?s pretty much what we?ve managed to find. While there is an easy winner here, each of these options have something to offer certain riders. As for an overall winner, the wheelset that?s the best all-rounder as an upgrade set, the Fulcrum Racing 3, deliver easily.

They will offer a significant improvement over a bog-standard set of budget rims and will perform year round in every riding situation. A special nod to the Hope Hoops and Harry Rowland?s custom option, which were both great rides at an excellent price.

Bought the American Classic Victory 30s.
After 18 months use, including one winter (out twice a week in the winter) – bearings on rear wheel needed to be replaced after 6months. Now nipples on the spokes are disintegrating – complete rebuild required. Not had a wheel-set fall apart like this. Very poor quality. Really regret not going for some Ksyrium Elites. When the ACs worked were very good. Just not built for anything other than year-round sunshine.

I agree with the last two comments, why are there no wheels

Some of these upgrades are more expansive than many of the bikes I see on the roads. Any chance of an article for those of us of more modest means? After all, we are probably in the majority.

Any chance of a “best upgrade wheels” article for those of us of more modest means; or is cycling a passtime exclusively for the affluent now?
