August is over and the BBC weather man managed to make three autumnal references on TV the other night. So is that it? Is the 2009 season over? Not by a long chalk. There's still plenty of good stuff to come.

A change of dates means we've not even had the Tour of Britain yet. See next week's issue of Cycling Weekly magazine (September 10) for a preview of our eight-day national tour which finishes in the capital on September 19. Russell Downing will be out to prove that his Tour of Ireland victory was no fluke as he takes on six-man squads from Garmin, Columbia and Ag2r among others.

Then we're off to Mendrisio, Switzerland, for the road World Championships. Highlights will include Bradley Wiggins' bid for a time trial medal and Nicole Cooke's attempt to retain the women's road title.

Want more? Then how about another Classic victory for Mark Cavendish to go with his sensational win in Milan-San Remo at the beginning of the season? Britain's sprint sensation reckons a ride in Paris-Tours on October 11 is definitely on the cards.

And for those of us with more modest ambitions there are still plenty of sportives to ride, including the CW extravanganza at Blenheim Palace on October 4.
