British sprint star Mark Cavendish posted up a photograph of himself in his new Sky team kit on New Year’s Day.
Cavendish uploaded the photo of himself in the Sky-logoed rainbow jersey on New Year’s Day, the first day of his official contract with the British-based WorldTour team.
The Manxman is pictured astride his new Pinarello team bike.
“2011 was incredible,” said Cavendish via his Twitter feed. “What to do this year? Remain the fastest. Become the greatest.”
Cavendish signed for Sky in the autumn from the US-based HTC-Highroad squad. The HTC team folded in the winter due to lack of lead sponsor.
Although Cavendish is now free to ride and train in his Sky kit, he will not ride in anger until early Feburary when he is scheduled to make his racing debut for the team at the Tour of Qatar over Feburary 5-10.
Last year, Cavendish made his racing debut at the Tour Down Under in January but crashed heavily. This year he has elected to miss the race.
His main aims for the season are Milan-San Remo, Ghent-Wevelgem, Giro d’Italia stages, defence of the Tour de France green jersey and then the Olympic Games road race at the end of July.
Since winning the World Championship road race title in September, Cavendish has been in constant demand. On December 22 he won the coveted BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
