Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) won the Ruta del Sol in Spain on Tuesday, book-ending the stage race with wins in the opening prologue and final stage. The Spaniard led the overall classification for the duration of the event.

Valverde edged out Simon Spilak (Katusha) and Davide Rebellin (CCC Polsat) in Rincon de la Victoria to take the honours in the four-day event’s finale.

Valverde won the general classification ahead of Jurgen Van Den Broeck (Lotto-Belisol).

In 2012, Valverde won the race after returning from a suspension for doping.

Given that he is a convicted doper and if we accept that he is now riding and winning clean the question is, did his doping products really work ?
If I was him I would be looking for a refund from his suppliers !
