Becky James has taken Great Britain’s first rainbow jersey of the Junior World Track Championships in Moscow.

After smashing the junior world record in qualifying fastest, the Welsh sprinter dispatched her remaining rivals to set up a final with Russian Ekaterina Gridenko.

In the decider, she had no problems defeating the home favourite.

The 17-year-old took silver in the 500m TT on the opening night and could claim another medal tomorrow evening in the women’s keirin final.

James was one of Britain’s stars at the recent Junior European Championships in Minsk, collecting gold medals in the sprint and keirin.
