Beñat Intxausti signs for Team Sky from Movistar

Team Sky have announced their fifth signing of the 2015, Spaniard Beñat Intxausti who joins from the Movistar team whom he has raced with for five seasons.

The 29-year-old joins for two seasons with the British outfit, who have already added Gianni Moscon, Michal Golas and Danny van Poppel to their roster this week, with Alex Peters having joined earlier this year.

Intxausti, who hails from the Basque Country, has taken two stage victories at the Giro d'Italia in his career and worn the maglia rosa as well as recording two top-10 finishes in Grand Tours in his career.

"I am very excited to be joining Team Sky," Intxausti said.

"Since its creation, I have always been attracted to the way the team works, and have always dreamt of being a part of it. Joining was an easy choice for me."

Team Principal Dave Brailsford was also happy to seal the signing of Intxausti for 2016, while the signings of Michal Kwiatkowski from Etixx and Mikel Landa from Astana are expected to be announced in the coming days.

"Benat has the capability of two very important things in cycling - He can perform as an individual, and as a team player.

"His arrival will strengthen our team in the very big races," said Brailsford, "and Beñat will also get opportunities throughout to perform in his own right."
