BIKE EVENTS TOP 'VISIT LONDON' AWARDS

The Tour de France Grand Depart was named London's top sporting visit attraction in this year's edition of the annual Visit London Awards, held at the 02 stadium last week.

A judging panel made up of political, corporate and media bigwigs decided that the spectacular Tour kick-off deserved to be singled out as the best sporting event for spectators in the capital. As we reported early last week, spectators at the Tour in London spent an estimated £88million, boosting the city's income, in addition to generating £35million worth of publicity. The Tour is chalked in to return to the capital in 2011.

Nigel Wynn
Former Associate Editor

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
