Bradley Wiggins heads strong Revolution Series field in Manchester

Sir Bradley Wiggins will continue his preparations for Rio 2016 in a higly competitive Revolution Series event alongisde teammate Owain Doull, in an event that will also feature Team Sky's Elia Viviani and Ian Stannard.

Laura Trott and Katie Archibald, both triple gold medal-winners at last week's European Track Championships, will head the women's field.

JLT Condor's Ed Clancy, however, will not be competing as he was unable to recover from a back injury in time to race.

“I'm gutted not to be racing at Rev this weekend," Clancy said on the Revolution Series website.

"I was looking forward to getting back on the track and competing with the boys in Manchester. I know Ollie will get some points in the bag for JLT Condor and I hope to be back soon”

Several of the riders currently competing in Six Day London will be making the journey to Machester for Saturday's event, including Six Day legend Iljo Keisse, JLT Condor pair Ollie Wood and Yoeri Havik, Orica-GreenEdge duo Adam Blythe and Glenn O'Shea and Christian Grassman from defending champions Maloja Pushbikes.

Viviani, who recently added omnium gold at the European Track Championships to a pair of stage wins in Abu Dhabi and three in the Tour of Britain, is confident he continue his excellent run of form on road and track in Manchester.

"I raced Revolution for the first time at the beginning of the year so know how high the quality of the racing will be, especially with riders like Wiggins and Doull in the line-up" said Viviani.

"I've got some good form following the Euros and Omnium victory so I'm hoping to get Team Sky off to a good start in the Elite Championship."

Maloja Pushbikers' riders Grasmann and Marcel Kalz will be looking to hold off a challenge from Wiggins and Doull (Team Wiggins) and Viviani and Stannard (Team Sky), as well as Orica-GreenEdge's Adam Blythe, Australian Glenn O’Shea, One Pro Cycling's Marc Hester and Lotto-Soudal's Pim Ligthart.
