BRITS END GREAT TRACK WEEKEND WITH GOLD IN LA

British riders ended a weekend of World Cup track success on a high on Sunday, as the men?s team sprint trio Chris Hoy, Jamie Staff and Matt Crampton beat France to win gold in Los Angeles.

After a blow out and crash by French rider Kevin Sireau caused a re-run, the powerful trio stormed to victory with a time of 44.606 for the three laps, while France only recorded 44.913. Showing the strength in depth of British sprinting, the SportinScience.com team of Ross Edgar, Jason Queally and Jason Kenny finished third to take the bronze medal in a time of 44.725.

In other events on the final day of racing, Jonathan Bellis and Ross Sander finished 13th in the Madison, two laps behind Danish winner?s Michael Morkov and Alex Rasmussen.

100% ME

The trip to Los Angeles will be remembered for the debut of the 100% ME team. Russell Hampton scored a historic first gold for the team in the scratch race and the team pursuit riders finished an impressive fourth. The riders are only in their first or second year as senior riders and will surely improve in the next few years as they develop on the road while racing in Italy.

The competition within the British team is now pushing the riders to do even better and a powerful show of British talent will be on show at the Manchester round of the Track World Cup (February 23-25) and the best riders will then ride for Great Britain in the track world championships in Majorca (March 28-April 1).
