Chad Haga shows that his sense of humour wasn't damaged in Saturday's head-on crash which left six Giant-Alpecin riders in hospital

Lying in a hospital bed gives one a lot of time to reflect of life, especially while you await surgery on your eye socket after being hit head-on by a car while out on a bike ride.

But Giant-Alpecin‘s Chad Haga seems unwilling to let his situation get him down, instead preferring to look on the funny side of his position and new-found fame.

As a way to alleviate the boredom of lying in the intensive care unit that lacked a television screen, American Haga sent out a series of tweets making light of the situation he finds himself in, including pondering whether doping testers would be wondering where he is.

Haga and his teammates were airlifted to hospital following the crash in Calpe, but it’s not all its cracked up to be.

Haga remains in hospital in Spain, while teammate John Degenkolb is set to be transferred to a hospital in Hamburg to continue his treatment on a broken arm and hand injuries.

Warren Barguil, Ramon Sinkeldam, Fredrik Ludvigsson and Max Walscheid have all been discharged from hospital.

A 73-year-old British woman has reportedly been charged with reckless driving and released on bail by police in Alicante.
