Chris Newton career profile

Chris Newton is a road and track rider who manages, like several of the GB Olympic team, to successfully combine the two disciplines.

Newton is one of Britain’s most successful track cyclists, taking many wins at national, Commonwealth and World level. In addition to his many wins on the track, Newton has also taken several high-profile wins on the road with his and Rapha-Condor-Recycling squads. Newton has spent the majority of his career riding domestic road races, where he won the Premier Calendar overall in 2007, although has taken several wins on the continent as well.

2008 was perhaps Newton’s finest season to date. In addition to winning two national titles, Newton also dominated the points race at the Manchester World Cup as well as taking home a bronze medal in the points race in Beijing.

Newton is currently riding for the Rapha-Condor-Sharp team on the road. When he’s not riding, Chris is a cycling campaigner aiming to get more people out on their bikes.

Newton retired from racing at the end of the 2010 season and took up a position as Olympic Academy men’s endurance coach.
