Nicole Cooke finished second on Wednesday in the Women’s Fleche Wallonne round of the World Cup. The winner of the race was World Champion Marianne Vos of Holland.

In a race run off in intense heat, Cooke and Vos formed part of a group of five that attacked the final climb of the day, the Mur de Huy, together.

Following several attacks by Australian Oenene Wood, Vos then broke away in the final 50 metres to take the victory from Cooke, whilst Judith Arndt of Germany second last year behind the Welshwoman, bridged across to take third.
