Nicole Cooke (Halfords Bikehut) out-sprinted Emma Pooley (Specialized) to take her ninth national championship win this afternoon (Saturday, June 28) in Duncombe Park, Helmsley, North Yorkshire.

The 106km race sparked into life on first lap of the first, smaller circuit when Catherine Hare (Halfords Bikehut) attacked, "I knew I didn?t quite have the kick up that climb, and I knew the second time up there it would go, so my only chance of getting in the front group was to try and get a head start. It?s not the kind of course you want to be away on your own all day," Hare said.
