Bjarne Riis is set to face some difficult questions from his team’s sponsoring company Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).

The company’s global head of media relations, Mike Dickerson, issued a statement to Cycling Weekly from California at 8.30am local time – as he started his working day by digesting the news that the manager of the CSC team admitted doping when he was a rider.

He said that the company would hold discussions with management at Team CSC before making any further statement.

Dickerson said: “CSC remains steadfast in its opposition to doping in sport. That is why we have been, and will continue to be, very much in support of the rigorous and independent testing regime introduced by Team CSC at the beginning of this year.

“While we are deeply concerned by the revelation from today’s Team CSC press conference we will not make any further public comment until we have discussed the matter fully with Team CSC.”

CSC’s sponsorship of the team was scheduled to finish at the end of 2008.
