No. 26: Helen Wyman
Last year’s position: N/A
Helen Wyman has established herself as a regular top ten finisher on the World Cup cyclo-cross circuit and is now looking to push on.
The Kona rider won her fourth successive national championship title at the start of the year and finished the World Cup season very strongly, with eighth place at Guerciotti and sixth place at Lille in January. However, the World Championships did not go to plan, and she finished 16th.
This season has been very consistent, with eighth place at the first World Cup race in Treviso in October, 10th at Nommay and ninth at Koksijde. Add to that a runner-up position at the famous Koppenbergcross in Belgium and bronze medal behind Marianne Vos and Daphny Van Den Brand in Hoogstraten and it’s been a very solid season.
She will go into the New Year as the best of a strong trio of British cyclo-cross riders (Gabby Day and Nikki Harris are the others) with hopes of becoming the first Brit to win a World Championship medal since Louise Robinson’s silver in 2000.
