The national circuit champion did the jersey proud as Britain went crit crazy. The introduction of the televised Tour Series lifted the profile of the sport and suggested that a return to the 1980s glory days of city centre racing may be just around the corner.

The Rapha Condor rider, resplendent in his bright white champion’s skinsuit, won two rounds of the Tour Series, in Exeter and Woking, and added two rounds of the National Circuit Race Series, at Brighouse and Blackburn, to the overall title. He was the only rider to win more than one round of either the Tour Series or the national series.

However, he lost his national circuit race champion’s skinsuit to his brother, Russell, who won the title at Beverley in the summer.
