Number 12: Helen Wyman

Last year’s position: 26

Surely it can only be a matter of time before Helen Wyman wins a round of the cyclo-cross World Cup?

The 29-year-old won her fourth consecutive national cyclo-cross title at the start of the year and has been even more consistent than ever this season.

A string of podium positions have established her as one of the top riders in the world.

Her best result of the season so far was a brilliant win at the Koppenbergcross, part of the Gazet van Antwerpen series that makes up the jam-packed Belgian cross calendar.

The Koppenbergcross is one of the most iconic races of the season because it takes place on the climb made famous by the Tour of Flanders and in the adjacent fields.

It was Wyman’s first major victory in Belgium after six years of trying and, outside of the World Cup, one of the most prestigious races. Wyman stretched a big lead over her rivals but took it easy on the final descent to ensure she didn’t make a costly mistake.

The following weekend (November 7), Wyman was third in the European Championships in Frankfurt, taking the bronze medal behind Sanne Van Paassen and Daphny van den Brand.
