It was another year of stunning British performances on the world and domestic stages of professional cycling.

The wins came flooding in for the Brits, with success across the board – one-day Classics, Grand Tours, stage races, track, cyclo-cross and mountain biking.

To honour the achievements of Britain’s cyclists during 2009, we ran a countdown of the best 30 British riders of the year before Christmas with the final top six revealed in the December 31 issue of Cycling Weekly magazine.

Here we present the full list of our pick of the best riders of 2009. Click on the links to read more on each rider, and our reasons for including them in the list.
