A male cyclist in his seventies has died after falling into floodwater on Godstow Road, Wytham, Oxfordshire, on Wednesday (January 8).

The man was air-lifted to John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford just after midday but was later pronounced dead, the Oxford Mail reports.

It is the second fatality in the area related to flooding. On Saturday, a man died after falling from his mobilty scooter into floodwater at Osney Island, Oxford.

Oxfordshire has been badly affected by floodwater due to heavy rainfall over the past few weeks, with the River Thames breaking its banks in several areas. Numerous road and residences in Oxford city centre have been flooded.
