Lotto-Soudal's Stig Broeckx wasn't the only rider involved in a collision with a motorbike over the weekend say BMC, saying that their sprinter Danilo Wyss was also involved a collision with a race vehicle during the less publicised La Drome Classic in France on Sunday.

The Swiss was looking to be set up for a possible sprint finish in the race, which was eventually won by Petr Vakoc (Etixx-QuickStep), before he was involved in the incident with the motorbike.

Details are fairly scarce on the crash, but BMC say that the 30-year-old was able to get up with no serious injuries, but saw his race chances disappear with it taking place so close to the end.

“Danilo was perfectly positioned and the team had worked really well for him all day," Sports Director Yvon Ledanois. "In the closing stages of the race he was involved in a crash with a motorbike, which ruined any chance of him going for the win.”

“Danilo is disappointed with the outcome, especially as this was a perfect race route for a rider of his strengths. Luckily he is ok and did not walk away with any injuries.”

Vakoc's win in the race was his second of the weekend, after he stormed to victory in the Classic Sud Ardèche on Saturday to claim an unprecedented brace in the hilly French Classic races.

There was some good news for BMC though, despite Wyss' crash and a number of riders including Philippe Gilbert being taken down in Saturday's Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, as Greg Van Avermaet declared his Tour of Flanders intentions with his victory at the cobbled Classic.
