Dartmoor National Park Authority says that it wants to develop a basic set of principles for both on and off road riding in the 368 sq. miles of moorland in south Devon.
As detailed in the Dartmoor Commons Act 1985, cycling on open moorland or common land is prohibited unless it is on one of the 350 kilometres of bridleways or byways. There is also a network of designated cycle routes in the National Park.
