The inaugural Dubai Tour will take place over February 5-8 2014, organiser RCS Sport has confirmed.

RCS Sport – who organise many high-profile races including the Giro d’Italia and this weekend’s Il Lombardia – announced an agreement in January between themselves and the Dubai Sport Council to run the four-stage event.

Alberto Contador, Vincenzo Nibali, Ryder Hesjedal and Tony Martin were all present at the official unveiling of the event in Dubai in January.

The Dubai Tour will kick off the 2014 UCI Asia Tour and is closely followed in the Middle East by the established Tour of Qatar (February 9-14) and Tour of Oman (February 18-23).
