A team time trial event run on closed roads has been added to the 2017 Tour of Cambridgeshire.

The ‘Team Chrono’ will take place on Sunday June 3, and will see teams of four riders competing against each other over a 26.55-kilometre route – the same one used for the event’s individual time trial.

There are 100 places available to four categories of team: male, female, mixed male and female and corporate. Entry costs £120 per team.

All riders will use standard road bikes and helmets, rather than time trial specific equipment. Race director Rowland Summerlin said that this was to “assure safety and to level the playing field across the classifications”.

Riders will be able to warm up before the start as 60 turbo trainers will be provided for use by competitors. Teams will set off an one-minute intervals.

Pre-registration for the event opened on Monday, November 14 on the event website: www.tourofcambridgeshire.com.

Tom Caldwell, CEO of Tour of Cambridgeshire organiser Golazo Cycling Limited said: “We see this new event at the Tour of Cambridgeshire as the first step towards the UK having an event to exceed the Duo Normand the famous late season two-up time trial in France which many British riders go over for.

“A key difference for the Tour of Cambridgeshire Team Chrono, besides the obvious number of riders in each team, is that in Cambridgeshire the roads will be closed.”

The Tour of Cambridgeshire also includes a UCI Gran Fondo World Series mass participation ride and individual time trial over June 3-4 2017.
