After three weeks and 3,445.4 kilometres of racing, the 2008 Giro d’Italia finished in Milan on Sunday.

Alberto Contador (Astana) added another grand tour victory to his palmares by fending off the weekend’s attacks in the mountains, and dominating his rivals in the final time trial.

All six of the British starters completed the race, and along the way Mark Cavendish (High Road) became the first British rider ever to win two Giro stages (stages 4 and 13).
