Rob Hayles’ dope test, performed on the same day that he failed a haematocrit test prior to the Track World Championships last month, has been confirmed as negative.

The negative result put Hayles firmly in the clear, and confirms what he and the Great Britain team have categorically said – that his raised haematocrit level was an anomally.

Hayles’ haematocrit level was 0.3% over the 50% UCI limit, and so the rider was suspended from competition for two weeks. Hayles was due to ride the individual pursuit at the Track World Championships in Manchester.

During the two week suspension Hayles underwent numerous blood tests, which all returned a haematocrit value of between 45 and 48%.
